TOEFL speaking questions and answer examples

Here are some examples of TOEFL speaking questions and answer examples:

Question 1: Describe a place you have visited that you found interesting.

Answer: Last year, I visited the city of Tokyo in Japan, and I found it to be a very interesting place. One of the places that really stood out to me was the Tokyo Skytree, which is a tall tower that offers amazing views of the city. I was impressed by the tower’s height and the panoramic view of the city. I also found the traditional Japanese temples and shrines to be fascinating. The intricate architecture and serene atmosphere of these places left a lasting impression on me.

Question 2: What do you think are the benefits and drawbacks of living in a city?

Answer: Living in a city has its benefits and drawbacks. On the one hand, cities offer a wide range of opportunities for work, education, and entertainment. There are many cultural events and attractions, and public transportation is usually readily available. However, living in a city can also be expensive, noisy, and crowded. Pollution and traffic can also be major issues. Personally, I prefer living in a city because of the abundance of opportunities and the energy of the city, but I can understand why some people might prefer a quieter, more rural lifestyle.

Question 3: Some people believe that it is important to have a job that is related to their interests, while others think that it is more important to have a job that pays well. Which do you think is more important?

Answer: I believe that having a job that is related to your interests is more important than having a job that pays well. When you are doing something that you are passionate about, you are more likely to be motivated and engaged in your work. You are also more likely to be satisfied with your job and your life in general. On the other hand, if you are only motivated by money, you may find it difficult to stay motivated and may not be as fulfilled in your work. Of course, it is important to be able to support yourself financially, but I believe that it is possible to find a balance between doing work that you enjoy and earning a living.

Question 4: Some people prefer to spend their free time alone, while others prefer to spend their free time with friends or family. Which do you prefer and why?

Answer: Personally, I prefer to spend my free time with friends and family. I enjoy spending time with people who are close to me, and I find that socializing helps me to feel more connected and energized. Whether it’s going out to dinner, seeing a movie, or just hanging out at home, I always have a good time when I’m with friends and family. That being said, I also enjoy spending time alone from time to time, as it allows me to recharge and reflect. However, overall, I think that spending time with loved ones is more fulfilling and enjoyable.
